On Friday 18 November2022 we are supporting National Farmers Federation in celebrating National Agriculture Day. It is a timely reminder that whether you are from the city or the country, all Australians are motivated to create a better future for our families and our environment. It is what drives our dairy farmers to produce high quality milk, for all Australians and the world.
To celebrate the day we are encouraging schools to educate students on what life is like on a dairy farm, how milk is produced to bring dairy products from the farm to their plates and explore the different careers within dairy. See how you can get involved below.
Connect with a Farmer to learn about a Career in the dairy industry
We have partnered with PIEFA who are running National Ag Week careers panels for Secondary School Students. Food and fibre producers and industry representatives will be online to provide information for students, carers, and educators on the different career pathways in agriculture. Join Dairy Farmer Rachel Nicholson on Tuesday, November 15 at 2pm. Register your class for this free session.
Virtual Reality
Dairy Australia has developed an exciting, new immersive experience for primary school students, who will have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be on a dairy farm, via a tour with a dairy farmer using the headsets. The VR content will both teach students about what happens on a dairy farm, as well as where their food comes from; ultimately helping to empower and educate the next generation of Australians on this important food group for overall health and wellbeing.
The VR immersive experience will be available for download from our App nationally from National Agriculture Day, 18 November 2022. Watch the below video to experience a 360 virtual dairy farm tour.
Discover Dairy Hub
The Discover Dairy hub has a range of free curriculum linked videos, worksheets, activity ideas, inquiry units and games to educate students from K-8 about the Australian Dairy industry, the Farm to plate and Health and Nutritional benefits of dairy consumption. Explore Discover Dairy resources.
Farmer Time
We have partnered with PIEFA to run a Farmer Time session so students can connect with a dairy farmer and ask questions about the day in a life on a dairy farm and about a career in dairy. Designed for students from K-12, Farmer Time provides real-world context to your food and fibre curriculum.
If you are interested in joining a session with a dairy farmer please email us at schools@dairyaustralia.com.au with your school name, year level and questions for a dairy farmer.
