Dairy Foods Loved but Not Wasted will build your students’ awareness as they learn about dairy foods, healthy eating and food waste prevention.
This project-based learning (PBL) unit has a series of activities that will encourage your students to use their thinking skills and develop an appreciation of the processes they can apply as they encounter problems in unfamiliar information and new ideas. Using 6 phases: Define, Discover, Dream, Design, Deliver and Debrief; students will develop knowledge and understanding through designing and producing dairy recipes. This learning process will educate them about avoiding food waste and how food preparation techniques can impact on the properties and characteristics of dairy food.
Teachers are provided with suggested learning experiences supporting study into:
- developing understandings about the Australian dairy industry and the nutritious products it produces
- implementing food technologies and home economics-related content and processes
- encouraging students to prepare and cook nutritious and healthy foods using dairy products
- considering the many possible solutions to deal with food production challenges
- designing steps required to create sustainable solutions for the problems identified
- delivering and debriefing solutions.
